Hellooooooooo, Philadelphia (and beyond!)!!! This is the list of "URGENT" dogs at ACCT, Philadelphia's city animal shelter. This is the place where all the stray or unwanted dogs go. For every dog that comes in, another one must go out. Without people to foster or adopt them, we know what that translates to.

Hayden - URGENT
Hayden (09270440) is a very emaciated (only currently 40 lb! Should be more like 100!) female hound/mastiff mix. Her fur feels like velvet and all she wants to do is be held. She has shown no resource guarding and is polite with other dogs. This sweetie was picked up as a stray and needs foster or rescue immediately! Photos at:

Midnight- URGENT
Midnight (A09167742) is a handsome male Black Lab 5-7 years old who came into the shelter as a stray. He has a turkey gobbler neck but could use to gain some weight and muscle mass in the hind end. He is a clam and mellow boy who is good on the leash. He is friendly but not needy, and likes to explore the yard, smelling everything. Midnight likes other calm dogs, but doesn’t like being jumped all over by rowdy dogs. Older dogs do not fare well in a shelter environment, please give Midnight a place to live out his golden years ASAP! Photos at:

Rosey- URGENT
Rosey (A0831679) is a 5-10 year old Shiba Inu that enjoys having her butt scratched. She was surrendered by her last family because she needed too much attention. Rosey has lived with cats before but is not a fan of other dogs. This smart little lady will 'sit' for a treat but still needs to learn leash manners. She appears to be housebroken. Sheeba (09257977) is a adorable 1-2 year old Shepherd mix. This petite girl is a little fearful and submissive, but is eager to make friends. Sheeba came to ACCT as a stray when she was found stuck in a alley way. She is a beautiful black and tan and has no tail! This petite girl needs some confidence boosting ASAP. Gina
Gina (09241417) is a 107 pound Rottweiler mix can easily be mistaken for a grizzly bear. Gina was surrendered because her owners can no longer afford to take care of her. She is quite uncomfortable here at the shelter, nervous by all of the noises and has a worried look when she meets new people. Gina seems to be house broken and walks well on a leash. Ruth
Ruth (09266760) is a 1 year old retriever mix that came to ACCT as a stray. this little girl is terrified in the kennels, but once outside becomes a goofy, playful pup. Ruth likes to play bow and zoom around, but can sometimes be mouthy when she gets too excited. Ruth is a affectionate girl, she gives kisses and will lay next to you once she gets her energy out. She could use some basic puppy training and once she does, there's no doubt that she'll be a great companion. Photos at:

Roscoe
Roscoe (09259316) is a handsome 3-5 year old Wirey haired big old terrier mix needs to get out of the shelter ASAP! In the kennels, he is quite cranky and will sometimes show you his pearly whites because he's so scared. Once outside, he is a completely different dog.Roscoe is playful and gives tail wags and solicits attention nicely. He seems to be house broken, walks well on a leash and knows 'sit'. Photos at:

Nalla
Nalla (09265217) is a 5-10 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix that came to ACCT because she tried to bite her owner (she's a bit of a resource guarder). Nalla has never lived with other animals and its now recommended that she not live with small children. She is a very active and vocal girl, so she needs a home that is experienced and can give her the exercise and training that she needs to be a good girl. Sandy (09262069)
Sandy is a very sad 6-9 year old retriever mix that was surrendered to ACCT because her owner got evicted. Sandy is confused and afraid and needs some love soon! She is a little overweight at 50 pounds and could use some exercise to relieve her anxiety from shelter stress and to keep her healthy. She has a beautiful coat and goofy ears, walks well on a leash, has lived with cats and is house broken. Sandy is lonely and needs someone to come and save her.

Buddy looks like he has socks on! This goofy but shy hound/lab mix is at the shelter because his owners can't afford to take care of him anymore. He's a cute boy, with big floppy ears and a nice shiny coat. He's a little wary of quick movements and loud noises, but really enjoys the company of people. He solicits attention nicely by bringing toys to you, he is house broken and walks well on a leash. He has lived with other dogs and cats and has shown no signs of aggression.

Patty (09229665) is a 1-2 year old small shepherd mix that was found tied up all alone in a school yard. She is a total sweetheart that would do well in a home with children where she can get tons of positive attention. Patty makes fast friends and enjoys the company of both people and other dogs. Myra - URGENT
Myra (A09214890) is a 1-2 year old stray pit mix that is suffering from Demodex (non-contagious mange). Myra’s a chubby, wiggley girl that likes to hop and prance. As uncomfortable as she is with her skin condition, this sweetie is still a lively girl and wants to play. She knows ‘sit’ loves to chase toys and is always up for some love and affection. Myra isn’t sure what to think about other dogs, she is undersocialized but not aggressive. Because of Myra’s skin condition, she needs to find foster or rescue immediately. Photos at:

Dessy- URGENT
Dessy is a dog in foster care but that needs rescue help NOW! Please use your rescue connections to help find this SPECIAL NEEDS dog a good home! Dessy came into the ACCT shelter as a stray and we really thought that she would die that night. Her body temperature was 94 degrees, she was emaciated and not doing well. Now she is anamazing happy, healthy girl. A few days into Dessy finally getting up and around on her own, we discovered that she was completely unresponsive to us, after much banging around of pans, and making obnoxious noises, we discovered that Dessy was deaf. We’ve began teaching her hand signals and laser pointers. She is a very smart girl and catches on quickly. She is good with most other dogs and is very, very playful. She likes to pull around people on skateboards while chasing a ball, she is great at fetch, and can decapitate a stuffed animal in less than 30 seconds! Dessy loves to swim and play in water! She is a high energy girl that loves walks and lots of play time. Dessy is great in the car and enjoys sticking her head out the window. She is a great snuggler and can easily entertain herself with toys. Dessy is already spayed and microchipped and is ready to be adopted into a wonderful, understanding home. Sassy Samantha (A09158781) is very sad in the shelter! This 3-5 month old pit mix came to ACCT as a stray and needs to get out so she can learn how to be a puppy! She’s a active girl that likes to romp around after toys and loves attention! She’s very playful with other dogs. Deba- URGENT
Deba needs someone to love her ASAP! This little pit girl (about 3-5 years old) came to ACCT because her owner was arrested for drugs and for living in an abandoned property in unsanitary conditions. After this sad start to life Deba deserves to live in a home filled with love. Deba had to have an emergency spay and is now trying to recover in the loud, stressful shelter. She is at high risk of getting sick post-op, and needs to leave ASAP or will be at risk of euthanasia! She is a smart, food motivated girl that aims to please and is ok with other dogs. Kev- URGENT
My name is Kev (A07740386), I have been in the shelter for 191 days. I came here as a stray on May 30, 2009. I am still waiting for someone to save me. I’ve seen hundreds of dogs come and go. Some leave in vans packed with dogs and cats that are off to find forever homes with rescue groups. Sometimes people that I recognize come in and take dogs and return in a few weeks with success stories of finding homes for their foster dogs. I’ve seen other dogs leave right from the shelter to families with excited children that are already fighting about whose bed their new four legged family member will sleep in. But I’m still here. I’m a good boy. I’m high-spirited and goofy. I’m energetic and playful. I am good with all types of body handling and being pinched and poked- in fact, he loves being tickled and runs around like a goof if he thinks you want to play! I like to chase toys, take nice walks and snuggling always makes me feel good. It seems that all the good things about me are also the things that have prevented me from finding a home, but I would try really hard if someone would just take the time to teach me to be better with my manners. When I came to the shelter I was just a pup, now I’m in my teenage years and I really hope I don’t grow old here. Or worse. Jade URGENT
Jade (A09168704) is a pretty black and white female Pit-Terrier mix that has had a horrible start to life! This one year old sweetie has seen some rough times and things need to get better for her! Jade came to ACCT as a stray with a very deep wound from and embedded collar. Her neck is healing, but her sprit is damaged from being here so long. Once Jade has time to run around and let off some steam, she becomes a big floppy love bug that is affectionate and delightful. Jade has no resource guarding issues, and isn’t thrilled with other dogs but could probably live with a submissive dog with a proper introduction. Tito (A09025634) is a really cute already neutered 6-12 month old Hound-Pit mix that was picked up as a stray. This goofy looking little guy is friendly and playful but he has typical puppy mannerisms that would make him best suited to a home with older children. He will also need basic obedience training. Jada (A08382318) is a gorgeous caramel colored already spayed female Pit mix 1-2 years old. Poor Jada was found as a stray and is skinny and on treatment for kennel cough. She desperately needs some TLC! Jada is gorgeous- she is tall and lanky with an elegant long nose and beautiful soft eyes. Jada is such a sweet, loving dog. Jada loves to lay at your feet and will make someone a very special dog. Jada is great with body handling- she is fine being pinched poked and especially loves kisses! Mario would thrive in a home that is active and understanding. He needs some work on leash walking, but he is eager to please and very food motivated. Coolio (A08194584) is a stunning largely white terrier with green (!) eyes, between 1-2 years old that was brought in as a stray. He is an independent boy who is not very needy. He likes some affection but also like to explore his environment. He needs some basic leash training as the pulls a little, but is friendly and has been evaluated as very adoptable. Coolio turns heads and we hope he will do so with you on long walks in the park, or in your neighborhood?! Coolio has not been evaluated with cats, but is fine with most other dogs. Photos at:

Gabby (A08221835) is a young brindle girl of about 1 year, who already had some babies but is now spayed and ready to go! She came to the shelter as a stray and seems over stimulated in this loud place. She loves going for a walk, but needs some leash training. Gabby is curious and of medium to high energy, although after some walking she settles down. She should not go to a home with small dogs, cats, or small children as she can be an active girl, with a prey drive for small animals. She has shown no food aggression or any other aggression, and is great with being handled. Please gives this girl a chance at having a normal life, with some stability, treats, walks and love! Miz (A07723129) is a strikingly handsome 9-12 month old light brindle male Pit mix. Poor Miz came into the shelter in May as a stray and still hasn’t gained all the weight he needs to because he’s in a stressful kennel environment! Miz is a playful, athletic, rambunctious boy who desperately needs a home where he can release all his energy and channel it into positive learning. After just a few minutes out of his confining kennel MIz is a different dog and justa few minutes of playing calms him down tremendously. Miz is a smart dog that since arriving at the shelter has already learned “Sit”. He is very handsome with his golden eyes and will steal your heart! He is unsocialized with other dogs- he desperately wants to play but all he knows how to do is jump on them, so he will not be a dog park dog, but could learn to live with a smart dog that can teach him the way of good dog behavior! Juvenile is desperate for attention and can be jumpy and pushy but only because he desperately misses his owner and needs someone to love him. LOOK AT THIS FACE!!!
Tigger (08912206) is a 1-2 year old American Bulldog/Pit mix. He was surrendered to ACCT because he escapes when he is shut out in the yard all by himself. Tigger is best as a one and only pet and he won't disappoint, he gives sticky, slobber kisses and likes to put his drooly cheeks on your lap whenever possible. This guy is like a canine locomotive on a leash and needs someone to teach him the proper way a good boy should walk. Tigger is a typical wiggle butt and is very friendly with all of the people he meets. He has no resource guarding issues and is great with body handling.

Stiller
Stiller (A09024266) is an awesome 2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix who recently had a litter of puppies, though we do not know what happened to them. Stiller was picked up as a stray and bares the scars of scuffles with other dogs in the search for food and shelter. She is a really sweet girl and loves to be in your lap. She is underweight as she could not find enough food on the streets but has shown no food aggression. If she is to go to a home with other dogs, Stiller would do best in a home without female dogs and someone with pit bull experience. She is fine with people and children. In fact, Stiller is a total people dog and wants to say hello to everyone! Stiller would love to be your walking partner, ride shotgun and spend all the time in the world with you. Haze came to ACCT as an owner surrender because her owners can no longer afford her. At only about 2 years old, she is a calm girl that enjoys playtime but isn’t overly rambunctious. Bull (09038091) Someone is really missing out on this dog! Bull is a gentle light chocolate brindle male lab/pit mix. He's about-5 years old and came to ACCT as a stray. Bull has adoring eyes and a very sweet sprit. He's calm, walks well on a leash and is great with body handling. This big guy is a snuggle that has seen some hard times. He has some old wounds on his ears and neck but has done very well with dog introductions and really enjoys the company of people. Photos at:

Sweet Magic (09118400) is a 1-2 year old female pit mix that was surrendered because her owners decided they just don’t want her anymore. She is lively and very affectionate. This little girl wants a best friend that she can play and cuddle with. Magic has lived with children and seems to be house broken. Cody is a 1-2 year old American Bulldog mix that had the unfortunate fate of ending up with a family that knew nothing about his breed and surrendered him because he was too active for them. You can’t help but feel sorry for this mushy faced boy when he looks at you with his big brown eyes. With a strong leader, he will blossom into a gentleman of a dog. He knows “sit” and walks pretty well on leash, though this could be because he is a little nervous in the shelter environment. She’s sweet, friendly and would do well with children. She would be fine with a daily decent length walk or you can even take her on short runs. Hello everyone! My name is China Black (A09228863). I was found wandering the strays after having a litter of puppies. The shelter people don't know where my babies are and I'm very depressed being in the shelter all alon without them. I enjoy crawling into people's laps and giving kisses. On winter days, I'll cuddle with you under the blankets while you sip your hot coco (I wish I could have some too, but chocolate is bad for dogs). Handsome Romeo (09268236) is a special pit! This cutie wrinkle face came to ACCT as a stray and its hard to believe someone isn't looking for this adorable guy. Romeo is a dominant boy, a little pushy with other dogs, but not aggressive. This medium sized boy is about 1-2 years old and seems to be housebroken. He is goofy and loves to play and will toss around toys and chase birds every chance he gets.
